Welcome to Squirtman's home on the web. Ever since public access television vanished from the Columbus Ohio cable lineup, Squirtman has been looking for new ways to let his creative juices flow for all his fans to enjoy. With the advent of free streaming video hosting (and with a little help from his friend Rubbertoe) we are able to bring you the best of the old Squirtman shows here online. The site will be updated heavily in the coming months, with many more old show clips being added - as well as BRAND NEW CONTENT created especially for the site! Yes my friends, Squirtman is back. During the mid-to-late 1990's you couldn't turn to Community 21 without seeing Squirtman, Rubbertoe, Mongo, Cr0w, Squirt Flirt, Myst, Captain Creepy, Moddie, Mr X, Karaoke Bob, Damon Zex, Angsto the Clown... as well as many more freaks that took over the airwaves in Columbus Ohio. Squirtman, featuring his trademark crown and cape, quickly became a favorite of drunk college kids and slackers everywhere.
Squirtman originally started as a series of short skits, thrown together into a half-hour show. This quickly expanded to live shoots on the campus of OSU, various bars and clubs around Columbus, as well as in the surrounding cities of Circleville, Lancaster, and Buckeye Lake. We even took the show on the road, visiting Atlantic City NJ more than once.
Inspired by Damon Zex and Angsto the Clown, Squirtman (the show and the person) tried to be as shocking as possible - while still remaining "clean" enough to not be pulled from the schedule by the powers that be. Throughout the run of Squirtman at Community 21, no show was ever deemed "obscene" or pulled from the air. This doesn't mean the show didn't have its fair share of bad press. Squirtman was featured in an article in The Other Paper, a local Columbus publication, as well as being interviewed by various news outlets, including NBC 4 Columbus. Squirtman had no second thoughts when it came to what he was willing to put on the air. The later shows in the series featured frequent trips to campus, where there were more than a few girls willing to take off their tops for the camera. One of the girls, Squirt Flirt, even became a regular member of the show. Licking whipped cream off of bare breasts, bikinis made of aluminum foil, naked girls wrapped in cling-wrap... you could see all of it on late night public access television.
Squirtman also spawned a spinoff of sorts, called This Show Sucks. This was the show created by Rubbertoe, who also helped to produce Squirtman. This Show Sucks could probably be considered as a "safer" version of Squirtman. Much like the original first episodes of Squirtman, This Show Sucks was more of a clip show - with much of it being fairly odd and generally unappealing. It was weird enough that people would watch the whole show, then realize that they just wasted a half hour of their life that they'll never get back again. Before Squirtman and This Show Sucks ended their runs on Columbus television, they also had various special episodes. The Christmas episodes featuring Santa Freak and Damon Sux were some of the highlights of the non-series shows. Sadly, the shows were about to come to an end...
For reasons that are still somewhat unclear, the City of Columbus could not come to terms on a contract that would allow Community 21 to remain in the city as a public access provider. This meant anyone who was unable to produce their own 3/4" video at home would be pretty much out of luck. Most public access producers threw in the towel, and called it a night.
Hopefully, someday, Squirtman will be able to return to central Ohio television...
